This high end residential house in Pforzheim in the south of Germany is a conversion and reconstruction of a bungalow house built in the sixties.

For the modern re-design it was necessary to demolish almost every element of the building retaining only the shell.

The original house looked very small in the surrounding neighbourhood. The intention was to achieve a bigger appearance without increasing the cost too much.

The solution was found in steel profiles framing the original building. The frames give the house a geometrical form and a unique play of light and shadow and a prominent appearance to its neighbours.

The two-storey house has an open-plan kitchen, living space and dining area on the first floor as well as a separate working room and a spacious 60 sqm terrace overlooking the city. This first floor is one big living space without any partition walls to kitchen, dining and living area.

The four full height sliding panels which stretch the entire width of the building are the only elements that separate the interior space from the landscape.

Due to its south-west orientation the panorama glassfront lights up the entire first level in daylight.

The basement level, partly in the ground, houses three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a playroom for the 3 and 5 year old children.

The master bedroom is located in the middle of the basement between nursery, bathroom and garden terrace.

The bathroom is a 20 sqm scaled Spa, with a walk-in shower and a free standing bath tube on a raised platform.

Whilst the outside of the house is purely white the inside consists of soft fawn coloured tiles, wallpaper and other materials creating a soft, warm atmosphere.
